The object stage is circular and rotating. It is graduated around the circumference and has two verniers. The substage illuminating apparatus is what is called the "two-iris-diaphragm type, model a." The condenser is made of 5 lenses. The polarizer is an Ahrens prism mounted in a sleeve at the bottom. A small swing-out lens at the top is attached to a knob. The substage mirror is plano-concave and mounted on a slider attached to a independent swing-out arm. The body tube and substage illuminating illuminating apparatus are linked together by roller-tipped forks that meet a vertical bar. The fork on the body tube is hinged to its collar around the tube and can be swung out of alignment with the bar in order to allow for independent rotation of the analysers in the body and substage. Readings are taken by means of the body tube and stage graduated circles with verniers. This instrument is accompanied by a standing wooden case for storage.
